Today I want to share an excellent tutorial by Antonio Guadagno that I invite you to follow on YouTube as it has a sober, incisive and immediate communication.

Hi guys! Welcome back to the channel. Today we are talking about a very interesting artificial intelligence. It is called perplexity and is a cross between Google and GPT chat, i.e. a search engine powered by artificial intelligence. What impressed me about perplexity is that it does not so much try to be an alternative to GPT chat, but rather an alternative to Google. Thus, it aims to change the way we search for information online. In this video, I show you in detail all the features offered by perplexity: internet connection, possibility to upload PDFs, smartphone apps and much more. So I would say not to waste any time and start now.

So here we are on the perplexity site, www.perplexity.it. Google-style, we ask: “How high is the Leaning Tower of Pisa?” We press enter and as you can see, he responds very quickly indeed. Here at the top we have the ‘sources’ section, very much in the style of Google, with a number of recommended sites related to our search. If we click on one of these sites, the website actually opens. Returning instead to perplexity, in the ‘answer’ section we have an answer in words, which seems to be written by a human being. We then note that each piece of information has its own source.

We continue with other features. We can ask specific questions and upload PDFs. I uploaded a PDF of JP Morgan on ETFs. For example, I ask: “What is this file about?” and get an accurate answer. I try out more specific questions on the content of the PDF, such as “Which chapters are in the ‘in-depth’ section?” and get detailed answers. This function is very convenient both for summaries and for retrieving specific information in PDFs.

The main objective of perplexity is to change the way we search for information online. He developed the ‘Focus’ mode and the ‘CoPilot’. The ‘Focus’ mode allows us to select from which type of sources we want perplexity to retrieve information. For example, one can select YouTube to find videos on a specific topic.

Now let’s talk about ‘CoPilot’, which is even more interesting. Suppose we want to organise a trip to Japan, we are at the beginning of our research and we don’t know anything yet. We activate CoPilot and do a generic search. CoPilot asks us questions to make the request more specific, then gathers information from different sources and gives us a detailed summary. It is like doing several searches, but all at once.

There is also a perplexity smartphone app, which brings all these functions to your fingertips. In addition, there is an extension for Chrome that integrates perplexity on the websites we visit. We can ask for a summary of the current page or change the ‘Focus’ to search for information on the whole Internet or only on certain domains, such as Wikipedia.

In conclusion, perplexity is a very interesting artificial intelligence that offers many useful features when searching for information online.
